This is a super book. The reference to the Wizard was a great way to begin, I thought - the scarecrow already had a brain, the tin man already had a heart - and you are already creative! This book provides a light, practical, obvious (but who knew?) set of steps to follow in order to release the creative being you are, so you can begin, progress, overcome obstacles and grow as a creative person. The use of two characters all the way through the book enabled me to "observe" my "fellow workshop members", so I could learn from them, rather than just "doing it on my own". I really liked the "Magic of Firsts" and the "explore/experiment" ideas.
I understand the learning process, I enjoy personal development and so I've looked at, read and got involved in quite a few self-improvement books and courses over the years. This really is, in my opinion, one of the best on personal creativity - and certainly better than the $26 "NYT best seller" I bought a couple of months ago.

Creativity. That's what this book is all about. Obtaining, exercising and enjoying ones own creativity. I think this would work well in the dry spots of NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month). Those creative sorts that keep journals or do Morning Pages may find ideas in here. I did enjoy this using text-to-speech. I will leave it in my and take each exercise in turn in the next month. It was a joy to listen to/read. I think it might be a good one to have in tree-form to leaf through, as it were, at when in need of inspiration.
This book contains a series of exercises to spur creativity. I was pleasantly surprised that on my first quick read of this book i found myself remembering the happiest and most creative fun times in my life. I was reminded of what i love to do, and also saw the connection between things that made me happy as a child and the creative endeavors that now bring satisfaction in my adult life.

It is really a brilliant book, well written and I do recommend it. Practical. Helpful. Inspiring. Really Cool!
I am a happy person, but Happiness Rehab is a wonderful and friendly guide with creative, fun suggestions and ideas. The authors have crafted a book that is filled with great ideas, suggestions and guides you to find creative ways to open and unlock your imagination. Follow the exercises and you will be better for it.

There are understandable, practical and thoughtful insights backed with plenty of examples supplied by the authors.

This book would be useful to all that want to create.

This books lives up to its title. The eight steps, which are painted into a workshop format, give practical ways to engage with yourself and your experience of life with heightened awareness and creativity. I could relate to the lessons imparted because they were lucidly illustrated with stories from the authors' personal experience as writers. I was inspired to try one idea and was immediately rewarded by a more joyful engagement with my surroundings and an idea for a book. I will keep this manual as a trusty guide and companion for years to come.
OK, I buy that creativity can break you out of ruts and make life more fufilling. Got it. But I was expecting a book about creative problem-solving--they really should have thought harder about the subtitle because its very misleading.

As for the suggestions, meh. Pretty obvious "exercises" will impress no one who has been through basic workshops, psychotherapy or training from a teacher on selected art form.

I lost interest and quit reading it, and I'm a hobbyist in music, acting, and writing--so its not as if I think creativity is stupid!
8 Creative Steps to A More Joyful Life approaches the subject of happiness by exploring many people's fear of creativity. People are happy when they feel like they can contribute to the world in their own unique ways--creatively.

Eight chapters detail simple but fun exercises for unleashing creativity even in the most determined conformist. The authors followed their own advice, participating in each suggested activity and sharing their results. The book could easily be the focus of group study in many settings from the neighborhood writers' club to the church discussion group. You won't need a leader! The steps to take are well outlined and explained. All you have to do is follow them and see how they just may change your life!
This book reminds us that creating is not as simple as saying 'I'm gonna get this done in a weekend' (although this can happen). Preparing a tasty and satisfying meal begins with the right tools and ingredients...then to be appreciated by an honored guest or family member....we do it for them, we do it for us. Happiness ensues! The same is true in writing (and other creative endeavors). We find that the right creative environment opens the mind to develop full-faceted ideas within the pages of a book....we then invite others to this tasty and satisfying 'mind meal' hoping for a sign of appreciation in return. The exercises within the book help you to find that creative environment for yourself and provides tools and ingredients to complete your writing recipe.
